Meet Our Members: Children’s Heart Surgery Fund

We’re proud to introduce one of our incredible members – Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF)

A charity that has been making a profound difference to the lives of congenital heart disease (CHD) patients and their families since 1988.

Every day in the UK, 13 babies are diagnosed with a form of heart disease. CHSF is there to make sure that those affected across our region have access to the support, information, and resources they need to feel more in control of their situation and their choices.

At the heart of CHSF’s work is their family support service, which provides a wide range of practical, financial, and wellbeing help to children, adults, and their loved ones. Whether it’s travel costs, accommodation during hospital stays, or emotional support, CHSF is there for families when they need it most.

Beyond direct family support, CHSF also supplies vital medical equipment and resources to the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit and clinics across the wider network. This includes funding for NHS staff posts, training, and key roles that help strengthen the level of care provided throughout the region.

CHSF is entirely self-funded. Every grant, piece of equipment, and moment of support is made possible through donations, fundraising, and partnerships. Simply put: they can only continue this work with your help.

Perhaps most importantly, CHSF brings together a warm, supportive community of "heart families", offering reassurance, shared experiences, and a place to turn when things feel overwhelming. That sense of connection can mean the world to families during some of the toughest moments of their lives.

“We recently attended the Yorkshire Voices Conference. Such an inspiring day and so well organised by Mel and her team. We loved the variety of exhibitors, it was also great to connect with like-minded people who inspire each other. We are looking forward to now being part of the community and attending more events.”
