“Every woman deserves to feel heard, understood and supported to feel like herself again.”

Meet Melissa Sookia, a pharmacist, independent prescriber and Registered British Menopause Society Specialist. She is also the founder of LIVVE, a specialist menopause and women’s health clinic based in Leeds.

After more than 20 years as a pharmacist, Melissa had seen how difficult it could be for women to access joined-up care. Women were trying to navigate appointments, blood tests, prescriptions and conflicting advice, often while struggling with symptoms that were affecting their everyday lives.

Then her own perimenopausal journey began, and that understanding became much more personal.

Like so many women, she found herself wondering why she no longer felt herself. Understanding her hormone health and receiving the right treatment made such a difference to her energy, confidence and sense of self. It strengthened her determination to make that support more accessible to others - That’s where LIVVE began.

Today, LIVVE has helped hundreds of women, and Melissa is incredibly proud of the female-led team they've built. They bring together specialist consultations, blood testing, prescribing, medication and ongoing support, with care available both online and in person.

For Melissa, good care starts with listening. Giving women the time and space to explain what’s happening, taking their concerns seriously and helping them understand their options. Every woman brings a different history, different priorities and a different experience.

Building LIVVE has also shown the value of having people around you who understand the challenges of growing a business. There is so much to learn from other women who are creating something they believe in, juggling responsibilities and finding their own way forward.

Melissa says, "That’s why being part of Yorkshire Ladies Links matters to me. I'm looking forward to meeting the women behind other local businesses, sharing experiences and finding ways to support one another. We have so much expertise here in Yorkshire, and making those connections can open doors for all of us.

Through LIVVE, I also work with businesses to bring conversations about menopause into the workplace, helping teams feel more informed and confident about supporting women.

I’d love to connect with fellow members, whether you’re looking for support for yourself, interested in menopause education for your workplace, or simply fancy a conversation with another Yorkshire business owner. "

Melissa and the Livve team are returning for a second year to exhibit at our 2027 'This Is Me Conference, Melissa commented

" I signed up to exhibit at the ‘This Is Me’ Yorkshire Ladies Links Conference because I love being part of the Yorkshire business community and supporting other local businesses and women doing brilliant things.

Running a business can sometimes feel quite isolating, so having the opportunity to get out, meet new people, make genuine connections and learn from each other is really important to me.

And of course, it’s also a great opportunity to introduce more women to LIVVE, have some really open conversations about menopause and women’s health, and hopefully help a few people along the way! ❤️ "
