As we end the week, we are looking back at another powerful moment from the hellomynameis Charity Lunch and Business Showcase.

The emotional and impactful speech came from Becky and Shelley Joyce, founders of Homeless Street Angels and proud members of Yorkshire Ladies Links.

Becky and Shelley spoke with honesty, emotion and the kind of humour that reflects exactly who they are.

Their story was raw at times, hard-hitting, yet filled with warmth. Their personalities shone through every word, and the room listened with complete support as they shared the reality of the work they do across the city of Leeds.

Becky and Shelley explained how Homeless Street Angels begins every week with the same mission: to show kindness and offer support to people sleeping rough. Every Thursday night, they are out with food, clothing, sleeping bags and, often most importantly, a willingness to listen, ensuring no one feels invisible.

Every day, they continue to uncover the wider challenges behind homelessness. Food and clothing provide immediate relief, but people also need safety, stability and the opportunity to rebuild. Becky and Shelley work closely with local services to help individuals move into permanent accommodation, then rally their community to furnish those spaces. Their social media appeals still inspire generous donations, turning empty rooms into warm, liveable homes that offer comfort and the chance to start again.

Their foodbank now supports more than 850 families, providing crucial assistance during difficult times. With no government funding, everything they deliver comes from determination, community spirit and the belief that everyone deserves compassion and the opportunity for a second chance.

They also spoke with deep emotion about their late sister Abi and how her memory continues to guide everything they do. A central part of their work is Abi House, their support centre named in her honour. It offers housing support, food parcels, fuel vouchers, dentist appointments and a wide programme of life-skills classes including art, acting, cooking, creative writing, exercise and more. These sessions give people confidence, connection and a safe place to rebuild.

Becky and Shelley continue to push themselves to raise awareness and funds, taking on challenges such as shark dives, fire walks, skydives, the world’s longest zipline and even releasing a Christmas single, all to keep the charity going and meet the needs of the people they serve.

Recently, they hosted a fundraising ball, where members of our Yorkshire Ladies Links community came out to support them. It was a reminder of how deeply their work resonates with those who know them.

Homeless Street Angels is not just a charity; it is an ongoing, living commitment to kindness, strength and community. Becky and Shelley continue to create a space where people are seen, supported and given the chance to start again.

We were honoured to have them join us at the hellomynameis lunch and business showcase. Their story, shared with emotion and courage, left a lasting impact on everyone who heard it.
