Please give a welcome to Lisa Sherratt, a dedicated Fertility Awareness Educator, exhibiting at our upcoming event, the Yorkshire Voices Conference on 28th February 2025 at Wetherby Racecourse. Lisa specialises in teaching Fertility Awareness-Based Methods, such as the Symptothermal Method, providing women with the knowledge and tools to take charge of their fertility naturally.
What is Fertility Awareness?
Fertility Awareness Based Methods like the Symptothermal method which Lisa teaches are primarily used as a natural method of birth control or as a way of achieving pregnancy naturally. The Symptothermal method is a process of tracking the female body's daily basal body temperature (oral temp upon waking) alongside bodily biomarkers of cervical mucus and cervix position to determine the fertile and non-fertile phases of the cycle, the method is 99.45% effective with perfect use - having an instructor helps women achieve this. This method has been used since the early 1960’s and developed from research which began in the late 1800’s when dr’s noticed a difference in a womans temperature depending on which part of her menstrual cycle she was in. At ovulation progesterone causes the body temperature to rise which signals that the woman has moved into the non-fertile phase of her cycle as once an egg is released there is no way for a woman to become pregnant until her next cycle begins.
Meet Lisa
Lisa was raised in a very holistic environment with a mother who is a nutritionist and believed we really are what we eat and put in our bodies. As a result when considering contraceptive choices hormonal birth control didn’t fit into the way of living, but until having her first child age 32 Lisa always felt like something was missing into how to tune into her body. Lisa discovered fertility awareness in 2017 and trained with NFPTA UK, she is now an active member on their committee and also mentors new instructors learning the method.
Lisa has two children, she planned the conception of her second child using the method and was able to conceive easily despite being over 35 - a testament to the method! Lisa has now successfully used the method as a contraceptive since the birth of her youngest in 2021.
Fertility Awareness as a Lifestyle
Lisa teaches Fertility Awareness in a very holistic way, leading women to use their cycles as a way of living as the energy naturally ebs and flows along with the hormonal changes in the body - living with the cycle rather than against it means you can really tap into your super powers and get way more done. For example, whilst the preovulatory phase is a great time for coming up with new ideas, getting out there and having meetings and presenting your ideas, post ovulation the body and brain are much more attuned to focusing on getting projects completed and going inward to work out what is and isn’t working in your business or your life so you can change and improve moving forward.
Four benefits to using Fertility Awareness:
It is a natural side effect free method of birth control, allowing women to tune into their bodies natural rhythm
Ovulation is a fifth vital sign for health - if you are identifying ovulation each cycle you know that your body is working as it should. By tracking your cycle you can identify cycle irregularities, potential hormonal imbalances, or other health issues and address them more easily.
You are in control of your fertility, choosing when to avoid or achieve pregnancy
Understanding your cycle and applying it to every aspect of your life from your business to relationships, what you eat and how you exercise can help you flow more easily through life and reduce burn out.
